Faerie Whimsies, and Such

FAIRY PLACES

Come Broonies, Silkies, Undines, Sprites

Come hither, and come forth!
Come Gnomes with crystalline delights,
And treasures from the North!

Elfin fingers parting stems,
Revealing little faces,
Thou canst deny belief in them,
With all these magic traces!
Down where the Greening Rushes grow,
We find the Fairy Places.

And deep within the cambium,
Of ancient Druid tree,
Etched there by Gaia's Ambiem,
Elf images we see!
Swirling, blending, neverending,
Haunting, beckoning and bending,
Drawing us, yes, Blessed Be!

Now with the spring,
The clouds are shifting,
Smiles returning to our faces,
With gossamer wing the veil is lifting.
Laughter come from Fairy Places!

And in Titania's easy poise,
Beneath Aradia's mazdic glow,
They're dancing yet with untold joys,
Still dancing, this we know.
How great that it is so!

~In Believing, One Sees~

"To see a world in a grain of sand
And heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand
And eternity in an hour."

"My!" she announced. "You are a very skilled flyer indeed! Tell me, if you please, what would you be called?"

"My name, I will share with you, only if you tell me who you might be!" replied the fairy.

Jilla carefully sat down on the ground and took a closer look at his face. "Why of course you may know my name. I am called Jillandra, but those who are my friends call me Jilla. Now, little one, will you share your name?"

Sitting across from Jilla, equally curious about her appearance, he replied, "My name is Eef. Those who are my friends call me Eef."

Jilla laughed at Eef and held out her little finger so that they might bind their new-found friendship with a shake. The first small joint of her little finger was much larger than his whole arm, but he placed his tiny hand on the very tip of her finger and they shook. It tickled!

Looking around, Jilla said, "I really must find a place to settle down for the evening. I certainly cannot stay here."

"You can be our special guest! All of the others will gladly welcome you when they find that you have a kind heart and mean them no harm!"

Jilla looked around once again. What "others" did he mean? She had seen no one else anywhere...just Py, Eef, and her horse...and an occasional tiny firefly, blinking its light throughout the plants and trees.

"Come," said Eef. "I shall introduce you to the rest of us. With those words, he hopped onto Py's back and the two of them began to walk down the pot-lined path. It was all so magical, and she found that the beautiful lights that she had seen from afar were actually tiny, clear, glass-like orbs. They mysteriously gave out light from some unknown source. Each blue orb emitted a blue light, each rose colored orb gave a rose hued light and so on. The whole area twinkled like a thousand little colored stars. There was so much beauty around her that she had to be careful not to lose sight of Eef and Py, as they scampered on.

Traveling further down the path, the orbs became less and it soon got very dark. This made Jilla feel uneasy and she finally called out, "Py...Eef...are you there?" Almost as soon as she had called out for her friends, she heard an extremely high-pitched sound pierce the silent forest. She stood very still, afraid that she might step on something, or someone!

"Sit down, Jilla, and be very still!" It was Eef speaking from behind her. Slowly, she lowered herself to the ground and sat, not moving a muscle. To her wonderment, she began to see what looked like groups of fireflies rushing toward her. As they got closer, she had to blink several times to be sure of what she was seeing! Looking about her, she discovered, to her delight, that she was completely surrounded by beautiful, dainty, little fairies and a bit larger and clumsier-looking elfins. They were all carrying a clear orb in their little hand which seemed to glow in the dark. How exciting it all was! She was so taken by the beauty of such a scene that tears began to trickle down her cheek. She could barely catch her breath! A very tiny fairy...perhaps one newly born from a fairy flower, flew up to her cheek, and caught one of her tears in a velvety flower petal. With tiny wings still flapping, she then gently kissed the girl's cheek where the tear had been, and flew away.
