GREETING CARD BOXES

These little boxes are wonderful for small gifts and things. They can be made different sizes, depending on the size of the card you are recycling, or if you have very thin tag board, you can possibly make them a bit larger!

1. Take a regular greeting or Christmas card.

2. Separate the front from the back.

3. Most cards are rectangle in shape. You will have to look at the front of the card, decide what images you want in the middle of your box top, and then cut the front and back of your card to make equal-sided squares. The front of the card, which will be the TOP of your box, will be 1/8th of an inch LARGER all around, than the bottom of the box, which is made from the back portion of the card. It may be easier to cut the bottom square out first and then lay it on top of the top piece. On the wrong side of the front piece, you can then measure and mark the 1/8 inch difference.

4. Once the squares have been cut, using a pencil, draw an X from corner to corner, on the wrong side of the TOP piece.

5. Carefully fold and crease each corner toward the CENTER of the X.

6. Once all corners have met to the center, fold the tip of each corner back OUT, toward each EDGE.

7. With point touching center again, fold each of the sides, one at a time, up to the center, creasing hard. This new fold will also make new creases. Once this last fold is brought back down, the crease line that it has made is very important.

8. On ONLY two opposite sides, carefully snip each side up to the FIRST fold line.

9. Unfold the two center sections of the SNIPPED sides.

10. Bring the two UNSNIPPED sides together to the center.

11. Fold the two SNIPPED sides over the other two sides, so that the triangle points of all sides, meet in the center on the inside.

12. The top and bottom should stay together by itself, but if you would like to be sure, you can place a dot of glue under each corner tip.

Make the bottom the same way!

In the forest, these little boxes are used for many things. Of course tiny items can be stored and given in them, but they can be used in other ways as well. The Birdlady takes small strips of scrap paper and writes positive and loving thoughts on each strip. She then rolls them up tightly and places them into the box. She gives these boxes to those who need encouragement or a lift in spirit. Sometimes she will think of all the positive and wonderful things about the person who will be receiving the box, and uses those to write on her papers. Then, whenever her friend is feeling bad, all they need to do it take one of the love strips from the box and read it.

Anola does this too, but she write little verses on her strips, and wise sayings.

Eef uses them to store wishes and things that he would like to manifest. He simply writes down on tiny strips, what his desires and prayers are, and keeps them stored in the box. When one of his desires actually manifests itself, he takes it out, and gives thanks!

You can also decorate these tiny boxes. You may use dimensional paints, glue tiny shells, seeds, beads, lace, teeny feathers and more on them!

Eaven attaches a thread loop to her boxes and embellishes them. Then she uses them as ornaments. Last year she made a birthday tree for "The Old One" and each elfin and faerie made their own little box, placed a special birthday wish inside, attached a hanging thread onto it and then they were all hung on a small bush! It was a beautiful sight to behold! The Old One was most pleased!
