Far beyond The Forest of Light, and further beyond the meadow,
lies a grand palace. Within these walls of splendor, lives a King, Queen and
their son, along with other members of the royal assembly. Although a few who
live within suspect that there is something strange and magical in The Forest of
Light, no one knows exactly what it is...that is, no one except the Queen,
herself! You see, the Forest, for the most part, is an extremely safe
place. This is because those who live there emit glorious rays of unconditional
love, which is quite deadly for any sort of evil. Most evil stays away from the
faerie-inhabited area of the Forest. Even those who are not evil, at times, feel
a certain strangeness or difference while wandering through inhabited areas.
Perhaps you have experienced this sort of feeling yourself!!! Have you ever, by
chance, been wandering through a woods or forest by yourself, and suddenly feel
quite different...quite strange? This feeling actually makes some want to run
and get away as quickly as they can. So it is in The Forest of Light....some
feel the strangeness, and some, like Jillandra and Py, feel total comfort and
complete love, all around!
Now, on a particular morning, the Birdlady, (she's the first one
that you see when you first enter the Forest), was quite bored. Curious, as most
elfin and faeries are, she decided that the time was right to venture out past
the Forest and beyond the meadow! She was aware that a grand palace was there,
somewhere. She also knew that she, along with all the others, had been warned by
"The Old One" to stay away from that area, as it would be dangerous. That day
was definitely a good day for bravery and adventure! So she did, indeed, go to
the palace! What she discovered was far beyond her wildest dreams! Behind the
palace and safely away from the main building she found a virtual mountain
of everything that one could imagine! As she rummaged through a tiny
portion, she found wonderful bits and pieces of jewelry, fancy and lush portions
of unused cloth, beautiful shards of fine porcelain and crystal, bottles of
every kind, and boxes, pieces of leather and so much more! It was all just
tossed out, never to be used again!! Now, if you weren't aware, faeries and elfin, and most all of
nature's entities, are naturally frugal and hate waste of any kind! So when the
Birdlady saw this huge mound of wasted things, it bothered her deeply. She
immediately returned to the forest, and had conference with "The Old One". At
first, he was not pleased that she had ventured out so far, and to such a
potentially dangerous place, but he listened patiently. She told him that she
would like, very much, to write a letter to the Queen, leaving it where only she
would find it, and inquire about the mountain and it's purpose. "The Old One"
agreed that they could use many of the things for good, and reminded her of the
danger, and to do it with care! She did safely get her message to the Queen, and
received a reply (which had been left in a planned, secret place), and found
that the giant mountain had been created by those who dwelled within the palace
walls! Whenever they grew tired of something, or if something wore out or broke,
they would simply toss it out. After a great while, things began to accumulate,
and a large mountain was the result! The Birdlady was excited to know that the mountain contained
things that were no longer desired, but hated the thought of waste. With this
concern, she wrote another message to the Queen, for as you can imagine, there
were some wonderful things to be found in that huge heap! She told the Queen
that those who dwelled within The Forest of Light would never take
something that didn't belong to them, nor would they take without permission.
Therefore, she was asking if perhaps they could have a few of the things that
had been tossed out. The Queen was quite charmed by the whole of it, and left a
little note in return, telling the Birdlady how pleased she was to know that
they lived in The Forest of Light, and that the secret of their existence would
be safe with her. She also added that the Birdlady, and all of her little
friends, were quite welcomed to take whatever might catch their fancy...and as
often as they wanted! So, this is how it all began! Now, on special, secret
excursions to what the BirdLady has named, "The Toss Mound", they gather and
collect all sorts of wonderful bits and pieces and create delightful, useful
things from them. Always grateful for any kind gesture, they also make sure to
leave something especially made for the Queen, in appreciation. It is said that
she has kept these precious gifts in a collection in her private rooms. Those who have gathered and created have generously shared some of
their ideas, so that I might present them here. I have tried to include photos
as often as possible, so that the steps might be easier to follow!
